I am so excited for us to do our lab experiments this week.  You are going to be able to decide if different households products are bases or acids, OR are they neutral?  I think this is going to be so much fun and connect to what you have been learning in your class.

My Dream Pet 03/01/2012

I don't have a pet right now but if I did, I would love a maltese puppy.  They are so cute and cuddly.  I want one not only because it is cute but it stays small and I could carry it around.

February almost over already? 02/25/2012

My Mother told me when I was younger that as you get older, time goes by quicker.  Well, when I was young I could not imagine that.  It seemed an eternity to events such as summer vacation, birthdays, Christmas, etc.  Now that I am so much older, I see what she meant.  Our mothers are always the wisest.

A New Year 01/10/2012

So, it's been a wet new year so far, weather wise, that is.  I'm loving the studying of birds and birdwatching and hope to make this a life long hobby.  On the agenda for the rest of the school year will be more pre-algebra and chemistry and physics.  Have to keep learning!

Christmas Time 12/20/2011

I really love this time of year.  One of the things I enjoy most about it is looking at my Christmas tree.  While the decorating part takes awhile, it is well worth it for the enjoyment I get out of it.  I am so sad when I have to take it down.  Sometimes, I have kept it up until after the New Year because I just love the comfort that it gives.

I hope all of you have a happy and blessed Christmas.

Bird Basics 12/09/2011

My students and I had the best time this week learning about birds and bird watching.  I didn't know there were over 10,000 species of birds!  I can't wait to get our bird feeders set up so we can watch some birds come in and eat the seeds.

I have asked my students to post at least one blog entry each week and I haven't done that myself.  So, this official ends my drought for blogging.  I am going to do it more often.  So come back again and see what I have written.  If you like it, comment!

Great Weekend 11/20/2011

Even if it was a little overcast, that did not get me down and I accomplished so much.  Today we finished all of our shopping for our Thanksgiving dinner.  My family and my husband's family will be coming to our house - about 25 to 30 in all.  I am so looking forward to having everyone over.

I also had an Elluminate meeting with the board of AAGC.  We are planning on presenting to the Alabama state legislators and talk to them about funding for gifted education.  Most people do not realize that gifted education is not funded in Alabama.  We really need more parents to help us with this.  I always say - Parents have the Power - and can make the difference in what their children are able to receive as far as services.  While I think we do an OK job with our program in Birmingham, I know we can do a lot better.  We need more time with our students and more teachers to do that.  Also, we need gifted teachers in middle and high schools - all of the schools.  The middle school teachers are spread very thin and there is no gifted teachers in high school.

I'll let you know how this meeting goes.

My students seem to enjoy making their own pages and I really want to e

Busy Day but Accomplished a Lot 11/18/2011

I was away from my home school today most of the day and missed the big staff Alabama/Auburn game.  The students were able to wear their favorite team's shirt and donated a non perishable item to attend.  I did get a lot done though.  I finished my 2nd grade child find visits (we have to do three whole class visits) at Jackson and Glen Iris.  This is a big accomplishment

Crazy Day and 80's Day 11/16/2011

Today was a mixed-up day at EPIC and it was very exciting for the students.  To raise money for United Way of Alabama, they donated money and if they did, they got to dress up like they were in the 1980's.  We saw lots of colorful, cool, clothes.  Tomorrow is the big Thanksgiving meal day.  Many parents will be joining their children to share this annual event.
